Recraft is a joint collaboration between the Rediscovery Centre and the National College of Art & Design. This graduate innovation programme sets out to assist and support graduate metals and jewellery students in the development of new business opportunities and products.
Recraft integrates design and resource recovery in the creation of high quality bespoke craft products. During a fifteen month residency the designers are based in a studio, exhibition and retail space in Ballymun and are supported with business and design mentoring from NCAD and the Rediscovery Centre. In return for this support from the Rediscovery Centre the designers contribute weekly hours to a time bank that is used to facilitate community training workshops. They also produce 100% recycled products exclusively for sale at the Rediscovery Centre EcoStore just off Ballymun Main st.
It is anticipated that during the programme the designers will establish successful businesses or secure employment within the design industry. This year 2011 is the first year of the collaborative venture and in the years ahead it is hoped to be able to expand into other craft based disciplines.
